Art collectors appreciate attractive oil paintings. Unique, modern artworks can be both emotionally rewarding and financially valuable investments.
Focus on the factors
The value of art is shaped by several important factors — many of them subtle and difficult to measure.
The first is, of course, the artist and their recognition.
The second is professional evaluation by experts and curators.
The third is the collector’s desire to own a unique object.
Subject. Idea. Message. Relevance. Size. Style. Technique. Emotional impact. Each of these elements plays its own role and contributes to the final value of an artwork.
We assess them partly objectively — and partly subjectively. After all, personal emotion always meets financial reality. Even the most renowned artwork may not resonate with everyone, regardless of its price.
Price reflects the moment
In galleries, we usually see fixed prices. At auctions, we encounter starting or estimated values.
Auctions perfectly illustrate the power of desire. When a collector truly wants a painting, they are often willing to bid higher. As bids rise, so does the perceived value of the artwork.
